Resolution 26-37

Regarding the retirement of the county mayor. Dated August 24, 2026. Added to the agenda under new business (not in the original packet).

WHEREAS, in August 2022 the Honorable Jim Bates was elected as mayor of Hickman County in a county election. Mayor Bates has served our county well; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure, some of the accomplishments besides taking care of the county's daily business are: Mayor Bates facilitated the purchase of the Harbor Building for multiple county offices to use, the purchase of the building for EMS station number three, initiated construction on the animal control facility, and assisted in hiring a full-time economic development director; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Bates showed his leadership through several major disasters, assisting in the response to the AES explosion, the Tennessee gas pipeline building explosion, and the ice storm; and

WHEREAS, the list could go on, and we do appreciate his efforts and service;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Hickman County Legislative Body on August 24, 2026, that:

SECTION 1: The Hickman County Legislative Body is desirous of commending Mayor Bates for his dedication and outstanding service to the citizens of Hickman County.

SECTION 2: This legislative body wishes Mayor Bates the best in whatever his future endeavors may be.

SECTION 3: This resolution shall take effect upon its passage, the public welfare requiring it.
